From strawberry jam heaped like Chota Nagpur Plateau on hot toast, as your mother read out to you from hardbound Enid Blytons to ‘boris’, being lovingly dried on your grandma’s sun-drenched terrace in Ballygunge. From the slurpy ‘golgappas’ dished out by your neighbourhood ‘golgappawala’ on your way back from tuitions, to the generous drizzle of Jharna ghee on ‘khichuri’, as the raindrops danced pitter-patter on the window pane of the house you grew up in.
There’s something about memories that makes the heart pine for a little this and a little that.
That’s exactly why, we at Jamborees felt, as we got caught up in our rat-race lives, our hamster-wheel corporate existence, and the breathless pace of life, making us feel displaced and cut off from all that comprised of the good old days of childhood.
Then we stumbled upon a staggering statistic: more than 3 crore Indians migrate and move out of their home city or town, trading the prospect of a better life and career for all that they truly identify as “home”.
Really that’s what we’d like Jamborees to mean to us and all our valued vendors, customers, and patrons. A whimsical, emotionally-charged, nostalgia-tinted walk down memory lane, even as you juggle excel sheets, ppts, and house rents.
Sights and sounds, flavours and textures, aromas and fragrances that all mingle wistfully to form that inexplicable sense of ‘home’.
We are a tightly-knit, cosmopolitan group of childhood friends and though we are based in different cities across India, what brings us together is our shared longing for a fistful of nostalgia.
